Understanding TimeFinder/Clone operations for volume clone sessions

Clone copy sessions enable you to create clone copies of a source volume or storage group on multiple targets.

Volume clone sessions

When cloning volumes, the source and target volumes can be either standard volumes or BCVs, provided they are the same size and emulation type (FBA or CKD). Once you have activated the session, the target host can instantly access the copy, even before the data is fully copied to the target volume.

NOTE:  TimeFinder operations are not supported directly on storage systems. Instead, they are mapped to their TimeFinder/SnapVX equivalents.

An overview of a typical clone volume session is:

  1. Create a device group, or add volumes to an existing device group.
  2. Create the session; restore the session.
  3. Activate the session.
  4. View the progress of the session.
  5. Terminate the session.
